IT'S OFFICIAL. JEWTOPIA is L.A.'s SMASH HIT COMEDY OF THE DECADE! After fourteen months of straight sold out performances in Los Angeles, JEWTOPIA is opening OFF-BROADWAY NEW YORK on September 28, 2004. Here are some facts and figures about the show. JEWTOPIA has recently been signed by one of New York's top theatrical booking agencies, The Road Company (www.theroadcompany.com). Jewtopia, which made it's World Premiere on May 8th, 2003 expecting to run for six weeks is still playing to sold out houses. Now, in it's fourteenth straight sold out month, JEWTOPIA has made Los Angeles theatre history. JEWTOPIA is the very first show in the history of Los Angeles theatre to sell out 240 Performances in a row! JEWTOPIA has yet to have an unsold out performance! Over 1100 equity waiver shows open each year in Los Angeles and JEWTOPIA is the only show that is still open and going strong! JEWTOPIA is one of the top five longest running shows in the history of Los Angeles Equity Waiver Theatre! Among this group are Reefer Madness, Naked Boys Singing, Bleacher Bums, and Late Nite Catechism! JEWTOPIA has now been seen by over 40,000 PEOPLE and counting! JEWTOPIA is the story of two 29 year old single men, Chris O'Connell and Adam Lipschitz. Chris, a gentile is obsessed with dating Jewish women because he believes they will make all his decisions for him. Adam Lipschitz, a Jew, is obsessed with dating gentile girls because they don't remind him of his Mother. After meeting at a Jewish singles mixer, Chris hatches a plan. He promises that he will help Adam find the Jewish girl of his dreams and show him "Jewtopia" but only if Adam promises to help Chris shed his gentile upbringing by teaching him the Jewish culture. Stereotypes collide, cultures clash and chaos ensues. JEWTOPIA is being executive produced by Frank Yablans (legendary producer and former president of Paramount Pictures and MGM) and Directed by Andy Fickman. Andy is best known for his play Reefer Madness!, which swept the Los Angeles Drama Critics, Backstage West Garland, and Ovation awards. Andy won Best Director honors from all three. The production team for JEWTOPIA includes two time Ovation winner for set design, Desma Murphy, Ovation winner for lighting design, Rand Ryan Ovation winner for costume design Ann Closs-Farley, and multiple Ovation winning sound designer John Zalewski.
